I think of myself as an Impressionistic Plein Air Painter. Much of my work begins outdoors with watercolors or acrylics on paper. Creating art is one of my greatest pleasures. After various careers, expressing myself through painting clearly remains the most satisfying. I enjoy grabbing my paints, brushes and paper and saying to myself "let's go!" Never certain just what I’ll find...a compelling landscape, still life, or unusual figure sitting on a park bench...I paint what my eyes see.
Sometimes my paintings are good, and sometimes not so good and I accept that. Along with my unfinished work, some sketches and photographs, I return to my studio and compete my painting using watercolors and acrylics, separately or combined. This gives me freedom to change and create a new dimension in my work, and have a greater opportunity to respond to my environment and capture the spirit of the day. That's the nature of an artist – loving the process rather than the end result. I simply enjoy being in touch, observing and then recording in my impressionistic way – the reality around me.
